I have been an avid viewer of the show Mad Men since it’s first season. So when I got whiff of the Virtual Mad Men Party, celebrating the launch of the Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook and the season premiere of Mad Men next week (March 25th); I couldn’t resist joining in the fun. My Fellow Blogger and Triberr Mate Donna Currie of Cookistry introduced me to this Virtual Dinner Party.
Keeping in consideration limitations with time due to my previous commitment to the Food Blog Forum; I chose easy and healthier choices from the cook book. Also, I knew my kids would be craving home made food by mom after a food frenzy weekend at Disney.
The Dinner Menu I selected for my family:
The Stork Club Cocktail
The Palm’s Wedge Salad
Sally’s French Toast with Rum
The Stork Club Cocktail
Ingredients:
- Dash of Lime Juice
- Juice of Half an Orange
- Dash of Triple Sec
- 11/2 oz Gin
- Dash of Angostura Bitters
Directions:
- Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker.
- Shake well, and strain into a chilled 4 ounce cocktail glass.
The Palm’s Wedge Salad
Ingredients:
- 2 iceberg lettuce hearts, quartered and cored
- 1 large ripe beefsteak tomato, sliced
- C rumbled bacon, to taste
- ³⁄₄–1 cup Blue Cheese Dressing
Directions:
- Place 2 iceberg wedges on each of 4 chilled salad plates.
- Top with crumbled bacon. Place slices of tomato alongside.
- Serve with the dressing on the side.
Blue Cheese Dressing
- 4 ounces Danish or French blue cheese, at room temperature
- ¹⁄₂ cup olive oil
- ¹⁄₂ cup mayonnaise
- 1¹⁄₂ tablespoons red wine vinegar
- Crumble the blue cheese into a bowl. Using a fork, whisk in the olive oil.
- Let stand for about 40 minutes. Whisk in the mayonnaise and vinegar. Whisk again just before serving.
Sally’s French Toast with Rum
Ingredients:
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- ¹⁄₄ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon rum
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup
- 6 slices bread
- Butter, for frying
Directions:
- Beat eggs slightly. Stir in milk, cinnamon, rum, and syrup.
- Pour into shallow, flat dish.
- Dip each slice of bread into mixture, turning it, and allowing time for both sides to soak up liquid. Fry slowly in butter on both sides.
- Serve immediately with butter and maple syrup.
