Ms. Cowan, Ketel One Vodka Regional Brand Ambassador. US East recently hosted the 1st Master of the Mule Cocktail Competition with USBG Orlando and Ketel One Vodka in Orlando. First place twist on the Ubiquitous classic crispy and refreshing, food friendly cocktail Moscow Mule earned bragging rights and a chance to compete for the Statewide Master of Mule Title.
We noshed out small bites from Santiagos Bodega, while sipping our share of hand-crafted Moscow Mule samples by our local talented bartenders at The Matador.
Brief history on Moscow Mule via Serious Eats:
Vodka may be the most prominent single spirit on the back bar today, but in the 1940s, it was a very different situation.
The story goes that in 1941, in an effort to market the then-exotic Russian spirit, executives from Heublein—then owners of Smirnoff vodka—collaborated with the owner of the Cock ‘n Bull Tavern in Hollywood to create this simple, memorable drink composed of vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice, served over ice in a copper mug. Wildly popular among the movie crowd in Los Angeles, the Moscow Mule caught on elsewhere.
Drum Roll!! and the Master of the Mule Orlando was none other than the talented Mr. Blake Jones for his beautifully balanced and spicylicious Green Blazer with Serrano Pineapple Syrup from one of the coolest water holes in town – The Courtesy.
