Happy National Meat Month- yes, it’s a real holiday! January is known as National Meat Month. It’s a great time to take a look at just how much America loves its meat, as well as uncover new ways to enjoy and celebrate it. As a serious carnivore or rather omnivore, I don’t require an excuse to celebrate the buttery-ness, charred to perfection, tender cut of a Steak. That said, when one of Orlando’s oldest steakhouses is commemorating their glorious steaks, how could I resist?
Spanning more than 15,000-square-feet, Christner’s Prime Steak & Lobster, formerly Del Frisco’s, has watched Orlando’s dining scene evolve since the early ‘90s. It is with great homage that Carole Christner, her son David and Alice, his wife, carry on the family business, as they transitioned out of the Del Frisco’s Prime Steak & Lobster brand in June 2013 to embrace their namesake – a brand built on its reputation of high-quality cuisine, great service and a welcoming atmosphere.
Christner’s offers guests two lounges, each with its own tone and tempo. The Piano Lounge provides an elegant after-dinner setting where 10-year-resident pianists, Jerry Bruno and David Witte stroke the ivories. In addition to live entertainment, on Saturday nights, the magicians of See Live Magic can be found performing sleight-of-hand tableside from 7 to 9 p.m. Beyond that, is the more traditional lounge, a favorite of customers who enjoy a more lively atmosphere filled with laughter and conversation.
A fine dining experience, Christner’s offers meticulous service in an intimate and relaxed setting. Homemade delicacies set the pace – each meal begins with piping hot bread and personal touches continuing throughout, from the salad dressings to signature desserts such as the award-winning Mandarin Orange Cake ($6.50). Each ingredient is carefully selected with a serious focus on beef – every serving, be it the U.S.D.A. Choice Plus Filet Mignon (8 Oz. $39 / 12 Oz. $46), U.S.D.A. Prime Strip (16 Oz. /$45), U.S.D.A. Prime Ribeye (16 oz. $42 / 22 Oz. bone-in $51) or U.S.D.A. Prime Porterhouse (24 Oz. $53) is aged, corn-fed and cut fresh-to-order. Attention to detail doesn’t end there, cold water lobster tails are imported from Australia and New Zealand and the restaurant boasts a wine portfolio of more than 5,500 bottles.
In traditional steakhouse fashion, all Steaks & Chops are served a la carte style with 12 side dishes including house favorites like the Lobster Macaroni & Cheese ($16); Potatoes Au Gratin ($11) and Osage Spinach ($11). Not to be missed is an abundant seafood selection that makes an appearance on the Appetizer, Soup and Seafood sections of the menu– items include Lobster Bisque ($10); Crab Cakes ($18/$35); Fried Calamari ($16); Salmon ($33); Tuna Tartare ($15) as well as Shrimp Cocktail ($18).
Our three-course meal comprised of Shanghai Fried Calamari, Carole’s Filet with Chateau Potatoes, Mandarin Orange Cake, and Chocolate Mousse. Crisp, sweet and spicy calamari, perfectly seared filet with creamy potatoes, super moist and vibrant house made orange cake, light and airy milk chocolate mousse – all in all a meal to satisfy all your senses…..
More than 5,500 wines available by the bottle or the glass, two full-service bars serving signature martinis and cocktails, premium Scotch and bourbon menus, as well as beer on tap or by the bottle. The wine list is updated bi-weekly.
The restaurant is open for dinner, Monday through Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m. For more information, visit Christner’s Website or call 407.645.4443. Photographs provided by Rockaway PR & Marketing Agency.
